Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
No other word describes the students I serve better than "resilient". What they face on a daily basis is nothing short of harrowing, and yet, they push forward and work to achieve despite their difficult circumstances. Our school is located in the shadows of Downtown LA's concrete jungle where green spaces are scarce and homelessness, crime and poverty are prevalent. Our school community seeks to offer these students a safe space to play, learn and dream.
My students are from recent immigrant families learning to navigate our English-speaking world.
As their teacher I endeavor to provide a classroom environment where they feel encouraged to work hard and set high academic goals all while learning a second language! This is no small feat, but I've seen my scholars consistently step up to the challenge with eagerness and resolve.
My Project
We all know that technological literacy has become a necessity for our 21st century learners, but my students do not have access to it in their homes as many of their peers do. That is about to change as ALL of my very deserving students are receiving iPads to engage in learning for the coming year! Having one to one devices is literally going to transform how we engage with reading, writing, math, science, history, etc. moving forward. The only catch is, we do not have a way to charge the devices in a safe and efficient manner.
This charging station is just the thing we need to keep our 30 tablets secure and fully charged so we can all get straight to work every day!
Imagine having to wait for tablets to charge 6 at a time using ONE power strip? That will be our reality if we don't get a charging station we can use for overnight charging that'll have all 30 tablets ready to go first thing in the morning. My eager scholars will not want to waste any time waiting to hop on to various learning platforms, searching for primary source materials for research projects, uploading their best work onto a portfolio platform, creating content for presentations, and so on. Help me get them going with this practical solution to a big logistical glitch.
