This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a very inquisitive, creative, loving group of 5- to 11-year-old children. As the lead science teacher for grades 2-5 and the supervising teacher of science grades K and 1, I have the opportunity to see every child in our building. From the moment they enter the science room, they are filled with energy and excitement. My students are very eager to learn, and they long to DO science every day!
My students all receive free breakfast and lunch every day, and I also provide them with snacks to take home when that need is there.
When a child's basic needs are met, they have a better chance for success; children cannot learn when they are hungry.
I have always believed that the more you expect from a child, the more you will get. When I raise the bar, they meet the challenge. This year I hope to see their love of science continue to grow and their desire to learn more be ever present.
My Project
This project would give my students the opportunity to explore STEM materials through the exploration of various STEM learning toys. Students will be given the opportunity to use the educational toys to explore the various aspects of STEM, science, technology, engineering, and math.
My students love to dive into the world of STEM through exploration of hands on activities, especially on days that I call "Free Build and Exploration Fridays"!
One Friday a month I provide my students with materials to just explore anything they want with various STEM materials. This is something that they look very forward to. The materials in this project will offer my students more choices in the materials they can engage with and also explore the use of various types of STEM items.
