Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is made up of 15 sweet preschoolers. They are the youngest members of the school, with a drive to learn and explore everything! The children in our school reside in the inner city, and are from many different countries and backgrounds. Most of my students come from low income families. Pre-K is usually their first school experience, and for some, the first time they will be using English on a daily basis. Preschoolers learn a lot about their world through play and exploration. It's such a rewarding feeling to witness; how they begin to build friendships, and to see their eyes light up as they learn and accomplish new tasks every day.
My Project
A digital camera is a simple way to transform learning and engagement in the classroom. Children love seeing their work, and themselves, photographed, printed and put on display in the classroom and our hallway bulletin boards. Families love coming in and seeing the joy on their children's faces as they pose with a completed project.
Digital cameras are easy and fun to use, and they offer nearly unlimited opportunities to engage students and to incorporate technology into the curriculum.
I would love to be able to take pictures of my students and use the photos to celebrate completed work, collect for students' end of year portfolios that they bring home, show parents the hard work their children are doing, create personalized bulletin boards, capture milestones and memories and inspiring projects. The majority of my students respond to visual cues and information, which makes a digital camera uniquely suited to our inclusive learning environment.
A digital camera is a practical teaching and learning tool that would make a difference in the way my students see themselves and the classroom that they are all connected to.
