My Students

All children can learn if strongly supported and encouraged. I believe when a learning environment with high expectations of achievement is introduced, perpetuated by the classroom teacher and supported by the school and community, students can perform to and beyond expectations despite challenges that they may face.

As a preschool teacher in a high poverty public urban school my students are limited to few supplies and resources .

My students share a building with other learners, however they are high school students, therefore they are limited to supplies, resources, and other funding for the school. I am challenged to develop and foster a high expectation with children who's families may have been conditioned to believe that they aren't capable of high achieving because of disabilities or conditions of poverty. With resources and encouragement, I strive to build the efficacy my students need to succeed. My students are encouraged of an abundance in my classroom daily, but resources are very limited. Your support in helping change that is very appreciated!

My Project

I ask that you help support me in creating a preschool classroom library full and enriched with lots of exciting books for my students to explore. With your help and support they will flourish in Language and Literacy Development. The books would help increase their Literacy Awareness through letter and sound recognition, concept of print, and build vocabulary especially for my ESL learners. It would also create awareness and importance for my parents to read to their children at home every night. It would ensure that they will be be ready for Kindergarten , all while having fun with the characters in the books. The Pete Cat puppet and books will help engage my visual learners and help them appreciate and love books.I chose some cultural books that reflect images of them selves , which would also put a big smile on their faces. I also chose books like "The Cat and The Hat" by Dr Seuss, who wrote books that are very rich in vocabulary, rhyming and sight words, which will help them recall the author, illustrator, characters, and events in the stories. This will help build Kindergarten Readiness Skills and make it a smooth transition into Kindergarten next year.
