Ready Readers

My students need a classroom rug for space to work. They will also need clipboards to use while working on the rug.

My Students

My students are bright 7 and 8 year olds in 2nd grade. I work with almost all the 2nd grade students in our school to help them become better readers. I work with many levels of readers, but they are all eager kids that love to learn. We live in Illinois and our state is struggling greatly to give our children just a basic education. With lack of funding for just the basics our students are missing out on many extras that would benefit their education.

My Project

Groups of 5-15 students come to my room to work on becoming better readers throughout the day. They work at their instructional reading level. When they come to my room we work on reading fluently and practicing their reading skills. Since they are in small groups we are able to have more individualized instruction. I would like for them to have more choice in choosing where they want to work. Right now we just have adult size chairs and tables that are not very comfortable for young students. A carpet in my room will allow more seating options for them. They will be able to work in a way that is most beneficial to them and best fits their learning style. They will also need clipboards to use while working on the rug.
