My Students

We are a neighborhood school serving the community since l927. In addition to general education students, our students represent 23 language groups, many of them English language learners, and students with special needs. Our mission is to develop joyful learners by providing them with support, encouragement, and opportunities for challenge.

Our students are enthusiastic learners who thrive on creativity and being challenged!

They are motivated by high-interest level curriculum and hands-on learning opportunities. They also love being able to explore, create new things, and are highly motivated by student centered learning. We are always looking for ways to provide them with tools that will help them maximize their potential.

My Project

Elementary students learning to write code? Of course they can! I would like to bring the Jr. Botball curriculum to

L.

Elementary School so students can write code and apply the engineering design process using robots that they build themselves.

For the past five years, L.students have eagerly embraced instruction in computational thinking and programming using block coding and are ready for the next challenge. The Jr. Botball program curriculum teaches C++ through design challenges. This sustainable program provides reusable equipment, software, standards-aligned curriculum to teach students how to write code and cover engineering design standards. Learning to code improves computational thinking skills and problem solving, which both relate to improved math performance and problem solving skills.

The Jr. Botball program includes opportunities for students to participate in one-day public events where they showcase their robot designs and solutions.
