Ms. Simmons from San Francisco CA is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need durable headphones that will last for years to come, are safe for students' ears, and allow them to focus and stay engaged with the technology.

Our school is a community of life-long learners who are dedicated to creating an engaging, academically rigorous, culturally responsive, and holistically inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive and reach their full potential. We honor students, staff, parents, and community members from all walks of life by investing time to form relationships and partnerships with each individual scholar. Carver Educators are committed to dismantling systematic oppression by using an assets-based lens and culturally relevant practices. We have an academic culture of excellence that includes the implementation of a robust, standards-based instructional curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This includes a focus on literacy and building competency across all content areas, including the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). In addition, we support students with socio-emotional needs and aim to equip students in developing socio-emotional skills across environments.
One of the most important skills teachers can provide inner city youth with is the ability to engage with non-fiction text. Additionally, it is very important to provide students with 21st-century skills so that they are college and career ready. Teaching this life-long skill is even more challenging when students are not yet proficient in reading and writing.
With the use of technology, our students are able to not only read articles and online texts about various non-fiction topics, they can also watch video clips and other presentations.
Additionally, technology can provide access to the content, specifically for students who read below grade or have difficulty reading.
While students are online listening to text, watching videos related to their non-fiction topic, typing /writing their reports, creating slide show presentations, teachers are working one on one with students providing targeted differentiated instruction. While this format is student centered and highly engaging, it is also quite loud without the use of headphones.
With your donation, students will be more focused and less distracted by all of the great online research that is occurring in the classroom. Our teachers will be more efficient in their small group instruction, which will ultimately aid in the closing of the achievement gap.
