I want my students to love to read! My room has reading levels from a DRA of 8 to 36. I started two after school book clubs and just spent $250 to purchase books for this project. I want more books for my student. I feel as an educator I would not be doing a good job if I didn’t provide them with a literary rich environment. If they love the book, keep it.
My students live in a district that has a 99% poverty rate.
They come to school hungry, tired and at times anxious because of social and environmental factors they can’t control. Parent don’t always have the resources to provide books for students at home.
I have a student who borrows books to take home and read to their younger siblings.
I am hoping my project increases interest in reading for all students in my class at all reading levels. I have multiple levels of readers in my room but these books were specifically chosen for my highest reading level to challenge them and encourage them to continue reading.
When you teach to the middle, students with greater abilities are not always challenged.
My hope is creating leveled book clubs will reach all levels of reading in my classroom.
This is just the start of my project and with your help I will be able to reach a diverse group of learners and provide them with a greater literary experience.
