As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I serve students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Our school is comprised of amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch.
Our students come to school each day ready to learn, and they are full of energy and enthusiasm.
However, some of our students are really behind in reading. My job is to help them catch up.
As a Reading Specialist, I work with students from Grades 1st through 4th grade. My students are one to two years below grade level in reading. When they come to my classroom, they need supplies that are in addition to the ones on their supply list.
My students need composition notebooks to complete word work and writing assignments.
They also need cardstock and glue for these activities.
A notebook is needed for each grade level to quickly locate students' data. Each student will have a folder that will hold work. A computer mouse will make it easier for students to take assessments.
