My students are 3-5 year old children with special needs and various abilities. Some students, and families, are just beginning the journey of special education, so I feel it is important to make the experience a positive one. I want to educate and support not only my students but their families as well.
Each and every one of my students has their own set of talents and abilities.
I strive to help them all reach their full potential. It is an honor and a privilege to teach these amazing children and to work with their families. I want my students and their families to always feel hope, support, and encouragement.
My Project
For safety and independence, my young students need appropriate seating where their feet touch the floor and the tables reach about chest length. My students begin their 2-3 years of preschool with me on or near their 3rd birthday. They are tiny humans. My classroom is furnished with chairs and tables appropriate for kindergartners. After seeing that most of my students could not reach the floor when seated and also had to climb into the chairs, I obtained appropriate sized chairs. I soon found that the tables I have could not be lowered any further; leaving me with a set of appropriate sized chairs that I cannot use.
The tables I am requesting can be raised and lowered to fit all of my students so that they all have appropriate seating.
I am requesting a different shape and color for each table to reinforce shape and color skills, and using 2 attributes to describe things. My students use transition cards to travel to the "red square table", "blue rectangle table" and "yellow circle table", teaching them independence as well.
Another advantage of these tables is that the smaller preschool size leaves more room in my classroom for children needing wheelchairs or flexible seating. Your donation will mean so much to me and to my students and will help enhance their learning environment!
