Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the best and therefore deserve the best. They are a wild and unique group of kids who have the ability to break my heart and put a smile on my face-sometimes within the same hour. They challenge me to take a closer look at myself, so the purpose of this project is to give them a more organized teacher and a more complete classroom. Seeing that they are in 5th grade, they are still kids at heart, so it is important to me that they hang onto their imaginations and kiddish charm for as long as I am their teacher.

My Project

In a recent survey, over 50% of my students believed they were bad at reading and writing. I came to realize that they had never learned to love either activity. It is my hope that these materials, especially the vocabulary and literacy games will allow them to have fun and read/write at the same time.

My students are a very spirited bunch and learn best kinesthetically, so my hope is to improve the rigor of their literacy centers so that their independent learning time is both worthwhile and entertaining.

They will use these new resources during centers time to improve their reading skills and build upon lessons in class. I have been making a push for vocabulary recently and believe these games will make them enjoy language. I hope these materials will help them see the value in becoming strong readers and writers.
