Reading, Writing, Thinking, & Talking in Second Grade!
My students need to develop a wide range of reading, writing, math and science skills through exciting activities, such as Folder Game Libraries, in order for them to be successful in second grade.
The majority of my students come from a low socio-economic status which means they have high needs in basic life necessities. Our school does a good job providing some of these basic needs like free breakfast and lunch and a positive learning environment. However, it is up to the teacher to provide vigorous types of activities to keep them motivated and engaged day in and day out for 180 school days!
Despite some of life's challenges, my second graders are curious, full of wonder and are ready to experience the joy of learning!
They learn best with hands-on, engaging activities that hold their attention and activities that challenge them to think outside the box to discover answers that make an impact on their understanding!
These precious boys and girls come to school each day enthusiastically, ready to try new things and it is my job as their passionate teacher to help them discover what they are good at in order for them to begin pursuing their life-long dreams!
My Project
Students need a variety of ways to practice what they learn in each subject. Students apply their learning through a workshop model in the classroom where they rotate to different workshops in 15-20 minute increments after a whole group lesson.
Students get excited when they are provided with daily activities that 'feel' like games to them when in fact, they are actually practicing their learning.
They look forward to moving and working with their groups and they often ask if we will be doing 'workshop rotations.'
Small groups of students will be using the Science or Reading & Writing Skills Folder Game Libraries along with other engaging activities listed below while I work with specific pupils on their academic needs.
With the variety of math, reading, writing, and science activities included in this project, like the Prompt Box, students will be challenged to apply critical academic skills they need to be successful in second grade!
