Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from an urban city with most of their families living in poverty. However, these young students are so full of life and eager to learn! School is their safe place. A place where meals are guaranteed and they are shown that they matter. My students have the odds stacked against them. It is my job to do all I can to prove to them that they can succeed and rise above the challenges that they face daily!

My Project

My students need multi-cultural doll house people that they can relate with and use for pretend play! The doll-house is used during indoor recess and choice time and my students really enjoy their dramatic play time at the doll house. They also need new dry erase markers to assist them in writing their letters/numbers on their write boards. We use these whiteboards daily and are current markers are running low on ink! My students write their uppercase, lowercase, numbers, sight words, and sentences on these boards each day. They are also in need of sensory snow for the sensory tables! I use this snow to create a "winter wonderland" themed sensory bucket. They LOVE this! They use their language skills and science/math skills at the sensory tables. We are also learning all about beginning, middle, and ending sounds of CVC words. We are in need of a sound game to use during literacy centers to help reinforce this skill and give my students something hands-on to use. I also need 5 writing journals for my struggling writers that will help them become more successful in writing. These journals provide guided prompts that some of my lower students are in need of to help them become proficient in writing.
