Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Reading and Writing Centers are not easy to do in an engaging way without some great, grade level appropriate resources. I need help supplying my fabulous fourth graders with such materials to guide them to be the independent learners they need to be.
I have 2 classes of 22 4th grade students at all different reading levels and writing abilities.
About 30% of the students in our school have at least one parent in the military and about 45% of the student population is economically disadvantaged, has special needs, and/or is at risk of failure. Many of my students see reading and writing as a chore or punishment, which means they don't want to practice their strategies independently or even in a small group. These 4th graders did not score well on their state assessment last year and need to be engaged while practicing their reading and writing skills.
My Project
Reading and Writing Exploration Stations will allow my students to practice, demonstrate, and extend their learning independently. My goal is to have a variety of differentiated centers every week that meet the needs of all learners. With the resources I am requesting I will be able to provide enriching, yet enticing literacy stations that every single student will benefit from. Students will be given the opportunity to reinforce their literacy skills while "playing" reading games such as Reading for Details Soccer Champs, or Inferencing School Days. They will have fun prompts to get their creative writing juices flowing and more. My students will improve their reading and writing skills while engaging in the Reading and Writing Exploration Stations that I will provide if I am awarded these materials.
I want to motivate my students to be successful, independent learners.
The Exploration Stations are developmentally appropriate, follow grade level standards, and my students will be engaged in their learning!
