My Students

Our school serves students in our district that are on the Autism Spectrum. We have three levels of classes and I teach the students on the higher end of the spectrum. My students go to mainstream classes and have the same expectations as their neurotypical peers.

My students work hard, have dreams, and want to fit in with their peers, all while knowing that they are different.

Each day they strive to find their way and be the best they can be.

My students teach me so much every day about life, and about being grateful for all we have. I am creating this project as a way to encourage the students to continue to challenge themselves, be proud of who they are, and give them the confidence they need to reach for the stars!

My Project

My students have been working hard to bring up their reading scores. Our district uses a program called Reading Plus and each time they read a story, take a quiz, and score an 80 or above, they get one step closer to leveling up.

Students with Autism frequently have difficulty staying motivated and completing long term goals.

My co-teacher and I asked our students what would they be willing to work for. They all said FOOD...except one, that wants a plushie and a tee!

They have worked so hard and are almost at the level they need to be at. We would like to get some gift cards to fast food places so we can treat them to lunch when they meet their goals.
