My students love to read! I am a third grade teacher in Illinois who is passionate about giving her students as many opportunities to read books that they are excited about. My school is a high needs school. Currently, almost 70% of our students qualify under the high poverty category.
I am almost finished completing my Master's Degree in Literacy. During this time, I learned about a model of how to teach reading to best meet the needs of all students and allows for time to conference with students individually. I have begun to implement this program, however, we are lacking one of the main resources that would help keep the books in good shape.
We are in desperate need of magazine files so that students can have a variety of books at their finger tips, and they will stay in good shape. I am currently using gallon sized plastic bags, but they are not holding up one week into school. The magazine files would help solve all this issue. Students would be able to choose their "Just Right Book" and keep them in the magazine files. This would eliminate the books getting bent, torn, or ruined.
Your help and generosity will make a difference in 19 students lives (and more to come, as they can be reused from year to year).
