Have you ever tried to concentrate on what you are reading, and all you can think about is how much your back hurts? My students need a place in the classroom where they can curl up with a good book and see how wonderful reading can be!
My class is full of amazing little Second Graders who are ready to learn!
They are energetic, caring and aim to please. It is only October, but I can already see a great deal of progress in learning! I really look forward to teaching them every day. Our school is a very diverse K-5 Elementary.
My Project
My students need bean bag chairs and pillows to make reading more comfortable and fun. Our school is on a beautiful piece of property in a suburban part of the city, but many of my students come from the downtown urban parts. Some have to sit on the bus for 20 minutes or more just to get here! Reading is first thing in the morning, and I would love to give some of my students a comfortable reading area so they can relax and enjoy their books. I have a pretty old carpet in the room, and most of the students just sit at their desks during independent reading time. I believe that reading should be relaxing and enjoyable. If my students had some bean bag chairs and pillows, they could curl up with their book and focus on what they are learning - not how hard their chair feels after a long bus ride!
My students are just starting to make really big strides in reading.
I can already see such growth in so many of them. Second Grade is the age when children yearn for information and want to try their very best at everything they do. Many will come in to Second Grade barely reading, and leave being able to read chapter books. I want to foster a love for reading by providing a comfortable and safe place in our classroom for them to enjoy their books!
