In our Title I School, many children come from low income, poverty stricken homes and each and every child receives breakfast and lunch daily at no cost. Many live in low-income housing, hotels, and some are even in shelters. For many in my class, English is their second language and some have special needs. With that being said, they all love to come to school and want to learn. They deserve all the resources we can give them.
These students are charming, smart, sweet, little 5 and 6 year-old children who come to school every day, craving knowledge.
These kiddos come in the door ready to learn and have fun. They will laugh, cry, hug, giggle, play, and learn all in one place: their classroom. Therefore, I am eager and ready to help each of them achieve their dreams.
My Project
In kindergarten we teach our students the sounds that letters make and how to use those sounds to read words. However, there are many words that you just cannot sound out correctly. I mean seriously...right now, out loud, sound out the word "was" using the correct letter sounds. Ha see! It just doesn't work!
We need to teach our students "sight" words or as we like to call them "SNAP" words, words they should be able to read in a snap!
Therefore I am requesting some fun hands-on as well as pencil and paper activities. I have included games such as POP Blends. We have the sight word POP game and they so love to play it. The requested sight word flyswatter game will surely be a hit as they get to "smash" the snap word.
Also sandpaper letters, the fill in the blanks, and sight word activity books will give them a chance to write those words solidifying that word into their minds.
These kids have grown so much this year already, it's time to up their game a little.
