My students need reading comprehension games, high-interest nonfictional text and informational text to meet the new Common Core Standards.
My students are eager readers! However they are missing the key component that will launch them into the next generation of learning and understanding which includes informational text.
My fourth grade students attend a school with over 60% of the population are on free/reduced lunch plans.
Many of the students do not know where their next meal will come from let alone what they are going home to. Even though the students face many obstacles, they are always eager and willing to learn. They enjoy the opportunity to work with one another and engage in hands-on experiences.
These resources will help my students tremendously. They will learn the background knowledge of how informational text is laid out and how to read this particular type of text. Students will be able to use the informational text pieces along with the reading comprehension games to increase their reading skills. They will also be able to use the informational text to further their writing skills and enhance their scientific knowledge. This in turn will also help them with their fluency and comprehension skills that they must have in order to succeed in reading and writing.
In supporting this project you will be able to help students become successful readers now and in the future.
Students will be able to learn about informational text and in turn will become accomplished readers before taking the state test in their grade. This will also help them become successful readers and life long learners. In turn they will be able to use these skills when entering future grades and college.
