Help me give my students the gift of Literacy in the classroom. My third graders love reading and books like Diary of a Wimpy kid and Dork Diary book grab and hold their attention.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, and ability. The one common factor they have is that they all live in a rural East Texas town.
Our district is unique due to the fact many students who start in our school finish in our school.
We are a close family-friendly town with a goal to grow and teach every student. With recent federal and state budget/funding cuts we have suffered with reduction in funds for support curriculum. Therefore to meet each students need is becoming harder without more and most recent resources to meet that need.
My Project
My third grade students have found the love of reading and have found their "right-fit" books! They can find themselves lost in a good book anytime of day. The best conversations take place when we have book talk time, the students have a chance to recommend and tell why they are recommending the books to peers.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid books catch my interest because they are funny and I can relate with some of the things that go on in the book, Says one student.
Another student loves nonfiction books, because she can learn new concepts.
Reading has the ability to take you to a comfortable place and truly relax like never before, I am proud my students have found that love of reading and are hungry for more reading books!
