Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This group is very special and unique. All 25 students have very different personalities. My classroom is made up of GT, Dyslexia, SpEd, BI, Spanish and many other children. This is a group that loves to interact and is very eager to learn. The majority come from low income or immigrant families who are very humble and want their kids to get exposed to as much learning as possible. I feel that if I can't take them on a trip, maybe they can travel all they want and gain knowledge through a good book. Another awesome series of books that I would love for my kids to have is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books because they can also make connections and they can relate it to the movie. They can experience things that the character goes through and they can relate in some ways. Students love when there is a series and they get very motivated and anxious to read the next book.
My Project
The majority of my students have a passion for learning, yet they are not given the opportunity sometimes. I would love to start my fourth graders with reading short funny books about school such as My Weird School books, and move on to other stories they might enjoy. Since their primary language is Spanish, they need to become more fluent speakers, readers and writers in the second language which is English. Well, how can they succeed if the practice is not done.
The donation of this project will lighten up the lives of many of my students and enrich their lives with vocabulary and experiences without making an expense.
It is through books that children can create visuals and travel at no expense. They can go anywhere and see beyond their five senses through the knowledge they grasp through reading. Students will always need reading in their lives no matter what job they choose to have when they grow up.
