Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a Title I school with 92% free and reduced lunch.
The students at my school have limited means and many times, I find myself purchasing many supplies for my students to engage them and hold their attention. My students are hands on learners and using LEGO to engage them during reading and for rules and procedures will not only engage them, but make coming to school meaningful.
My Project
My students will use the LEGO to engage in purposeful play that will increase their problem solving skills, social skills, and as well as communication. The students will use the LEGO during specific instructional time to explore social studies, mathematical concepts such as fractions and multiplication, and reading. My main goal is to use the LEGO for interactive story telling. I feel that this hands-on approach to learning will greatly benefit my students and their curiosity for learning. These experiences will help my students appreciate their own self- worth through self-discovery, teamwork, and last but not least, inquiry- based learning. My goal is that my students will be able to apply the scientific method in all aspects to learning. They will be able to plan, design, reason, experiment, test, and revise models, structures, and devices that will foster critical thinking and creativity.
I will use the LEGO to help the students express what they have read.
I will have the students create scenes from the book during reading and have them retell what happened. This will benefit the students because the students will be engaged with the activities and the learning process becomes meaningful to them, therefore the students retained the lesson.
