My Students
My students attend a school in a high poverty and crime rate neighborhood in Nevada. My school is a Title I, Tier III school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Many students also receive a food bag for the weekend. Most of the students live with their families in apartments or a hotel room and struggle with where they will be living in the next week. Regardless of their at home situation, my little learners come to school ready to learn.
My Project
Reading can be a struggle for many students. These books were specifically selected to engage all types of readers. Whether the student has just started their reading journey by looking at the pictures or if the student is challenging their reading journey by reading the words, a new set of books will help all students be engaged and take ownership of their own reading time.
When fostering reading in a magical way, it can be part of everyday fun.
With so many standards to be taught throughout school, reading should remain fun. Having these new books means helping my little learners fall in love with reading.
