The parents of my students are interested in reading at home with their students, but are truly inexperienced and often feel inadequate. I would like to sponsor a Family Night, specifically for fathers or male role models, and teach the fathers some techniques for reading at home with their children. Each participant will get a book and will learn how to read at home with their children. This is meant to encourage family literacy and create good feelings about reading away from school. The materials I am requesting will support the Family Literacy Night and will provide a set of materials that can be sent home for family reading. I teach students in grades 3 and 4 in a school with 35% free and reduced lunch, multicultural classes and a strong interest in supporting the school.
