It's a new school year bursting with motivated learners. Using GRAPHIC NOVELS in the classroom may help some of these students reach their reading goals and fall in love with reading.
We are an urban school, where approximately 70% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
They come from many backgrounds and all deserve the opportunity to be successful educationally.
Our school has limited access to a library and many of our books are not what the kids currently enjoy reading. In our classroom, I try to keep up with the reading trends and many of my students have found a love for GRAPHIC NOVELS.
My Project
Our team of approximately 60 students have a reading goal of 40 books for the school year. Within our goal, students are asked to read a variety of genres. By using GRAPHIC NOVELS, some of my more reluctant readers may be motivated to read and reach these goals. They will have access to sports and biography titles.
This project will give students the opportunity to read about famous people and sporting adventures through GRAPHIC NOVELS.
These are not traditional novels and will be less challenging for reluctant readers. The graphics/pictures and comic format makes reading more enjoyable for the struggling reader.
