As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
They are some of the most caring and encouraging students I've ever had to encounter, and I'd like the opportunity for them to excel beyond the circumstances that surround them.
My students are in need of technology that will help them to reach a higher level of interaction with the outside world. Having 5 tablets will assist their ability to increase their reading fluency, and will allow them to be more competitive in the future.
My Project
My students are in a co-teach classroom which includes several students who have special needs and learning disabilities. These tablets will help to facilitate their learning at their own pace, and create exposure that they would not normally have at home. We will be using them in stations (individually) and with other computer programs (whole group) where learning will be taken to another level of interaction and enjoyment.
These tablets will help to shift their thinking from a poverty mindset to a growth mindset by allowing them to see their improvements IMMEDIATELY!
These tablets will help to reinforce various aspects that we've discussed in class. My students struggle with comprehension, inference, and summarizing: There are so many computer programs that are aligned with our curriculum that will help to assist the students at their own pace -- while I assist them in small groups.
