Ms. Wakeman from Indianapolis IN is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Reading Warriors Book Clubs

My students need high interest memoirs like "Educated" to read in book clubs to not only prepare them for the AP exam, but also to build their love for reading.

My Students

My students from Indianapolis are hard working juniors and seniors who are hungry for learning opportunities! My students are constantly looking for new learning opportunities in and out of the classroom.

My students are always looking for new and engaging books to read, and most just need that book to be put in their hands and given the time and place to read it.

Each young adult in my classroom thrives when shown how much we love and care for them. Whenever I get the chance to share new materials with them they jump at the chance to engage, and they love it when they get to decide how to learn. Every day I am so grateful to work with such extraordinary young people!

My Project

More and more students are not reading because they do not have time and access to high interest books. The Reading Warriors Book Club project is designed to give my students the time, place and resources to engage in high interest memoir reading this school year. Students will pick from these titles and have time in class to read books of their choice and discuss the book with their classmates.

It takes one book at the right time to help a reluctant reader become a lifelong reader.

This hope of this project is to inspire my students to become engaged in the world around them. The books were selected for students to experience a life different from theirs and to open our class to new discussions. These books were selected to inspire students to be life long readers!
