This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing, unique learners who are all different and special in their own ways. They all come with different stories, experiences, and learning styles. Regardless of what their backgrounds or home lives may be, one thing is for certain, they love to come to school and learn. School is their safe place, their place where they feel part of a family, and a place where their possibilities are endless.
My students face so many obstacles and uncertainties that having the right tools provides them with opportunities that they may never get outside of the classroom.
It gives them the belief and the knowledge to be anything they want to be!
My Project
I teach first grade but often my students are at least one to two years behind. Without the basic tools to get them at grade level with reading, they face the reality of always being behind and struggling. Without having another adult in the room, it is imperative to have educational tools that are meaningful and effective to keep my students engaged and learning.
These reading tools are great for independent work, partner work, small group, and are essential for repeated practice and exposure to these basic yet foundational reading skills.
The puzzles will help students to self-check themselves and their partners. They will give students the confidence to learn and keep them engaged so they can be successful in reading.
