Help me give my students literacy opportunities with their peers and families. My students need a few new books to read along with me during virtual learning.
Reading together has always been an important part of my teaching. Since we started with virtual learning this fall, it has been challenging to connect with my students during my read alouds. In an effort to form some better connections with my students, I’d like them to continue to receive a book each quarter from me that we can read together virtually.
I want to have positive reading experiences together during virtual learning.
I want my students to enjoy reading with me as they would have in the classroom.
Listening to an adult read a story aloud models for students what fluent reading should sound like. This is an important part of the reading process. Sharing in this experience virtually is always special.
My 2nd grade students come from very well-educated families who greatly value their children's education. These students are sweet, kind, and always eager to learn more. They are creative and interested in exploring new ways of learning. Listening to fluent reading is an important part of the reading process and I want to continue to share that experience with my students. I am lucky to be teaching a wonderful and sweet bunch of students this year.
My Project
Reading together in class will promote listening and speaking skills. We will have discussions about the books we read together and the students can read them over and over again at home. Families will be able to share in a positive reading experience too. During virtual learning, it can be hard to separate school and home life. As a parent myself, I know how hard it can be to disconnect from work. I am hopeful to be able to support families in building in some time to disconnect from their busy lives and to focus on literacy with a new book. I cannot wait to share more positive reading experiences with my students. Thank you in advance for your support.
