Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are truly amazing! Despite the vast majority of them coming from low-income, single-parent households, they can't wait to come to school and learn all there is to learn! We are a Dual Language classroom in a Title I school, where all the students are second language learners and well on their way to mastery of both the English and Spanish languages. In order to meet the students' individualized academic needs while allowing them to advance in the acquisition of both languages, students spend half their time in a classroom focusing on concepts taught in the English language and the other half of their time focusing on concepts taught in Spanish.
Our students are also acquiring the social skills required to work cooperatively in groups of varying sizes and compositions.
Having the ability to work cooperatively, in multiple languages will enable our students to compete in our ever-changing global society. They are TRULY preparing to be the leaders of tomorrow!
My Project
Learning to enjoy reading is a very important lesson that benefits the reader FOREVER. When students are able to support one another as they learn to enjoy reading, everyone benefits!
Using a Big Book Stand to read collaboratively makes learning to read fun and exciting!
With the use of the Big Book Stand with the magnetic write and wipe board, students will be able to read and grow together as learners. When reading together, students learn from one another, magnifying their growth exponentially. Using the write and wipe magnetic board, students can also reflect on the word patterns and concepts taught in the stories they are enjoying.
