Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I believe that reading opens up whole new world. It opens up imagination and creativity. However, we live in a world where technology does the thinking for many of us. Auto-correct, texting, youtube, etc., influence the minds of the children, that reading literature hardly attracts their minds.
My students are fun, energetic, full of life human beings.
They love listening to music and absorbing everything Los Angeles has to offer. Many of them have a multi-cultural background. They attend a school that surrounds Korean, Greek, Mexican, Salvadorian and many other ethnic restaurants.
My Project
Majority of my students are very well connected to technology and the social media networks. The literature books will help them learn about the past, culture, morals, creativity and imagination. Instead of following the trend, these literature books will help them form their own thoughts and opinions.
As C.S.
Lewis said "Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become."
Literature helps students make their own movies in their minds; that is being creative and creativity leads to confidence. I would like to use these books to enrich the minds of my students. I want them to CARPE DIEM.
