My students need activities, games, puzzles, comprehension centers and more that are fun and hands on to continue to be engaged in their learning and to encourage comprehension and the love for reading different text.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How would you feel if some research says that your social background group starts school 50% behind your counterparts? How can we as stakeholders change this perception of students entering school with less tools to begin with during this 21st century.
My class consists mainly of African-American and Hispanic students who receives mainly free lunch.
Our school host many public resources, due to the need in the neighborhood. We have a lot of transients, homeless, singe-families, and very young parents who have 3 children or more. These factors along makes teaching very challenging. I have to address attendance and tardies on a regular basis. Most of the students I teach come to me below grade level. Coming to school to eat lunch and interact with kids their age most times is the highlight of their day. I believe my students truly want to learn but their outside activities hinder their learning. The everyday needs out-weighs the needs of learning. I teach at a neighborhood school where most of the students get some type of public assistant including housing. Also, most of our Hispanic parents do not speak English; this affects the communication when it comes to my students learning because their parents really can't help them
My Project
My students are very loving and needy. These reading items will allow them to learn the essential reading skills in a fun, hands-on, and a life-time of knowledge. As a teacher, I have had several professional development workshops that have addressed the different learning styles. I would like to have several resources that will accommodate those tactile, kinetic, visual, and abstract learners. Most of my students tend to have to move and talk a lot, so having the games and activities that are a quick assessment for me would be a great tool in my classroom. Once I have presented, model, and taught the skills, my students would be able to have some reinforcements my playing games and working in centers that would address their individual needs. In our school, we have common assessments that address skills that needs to be mastered in second grade. Having these extra resources, I know my students will have a greater success rate. I know they will soar even in third grade.
Your donation to my classroom will truly make a difference.
I am a product of the population that I teach now. Having teachers who care about every child's learning ability are truly a blessing to our future generation. I did not have all these resources available to me as a child but knowing that a teacher went beyond the call of duty to assist her students was enough for me. Having these resources, my students will want to share their learning experiences with friends and family members.
