This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my seventh year as a teacher, and every year, I continue to learn. Through the supportive staff and the amazing opportunities to grow as a teacher, I can't see what there isn't to love.

My students are what drives me every single day to not only be a better person but to be a better teacher.

Working at a Title I school, my students come from many different backgrounds, but coming from a different background has not stopped them from wanting to come to school and bettering themselves as students. Their enthusiasm and love for learning are the light on the darkest of days. Although they all learn in different ways, they always want to help each other within the classroom and outside of the classroom. As a teacher, I couldn't want anything more.

My Project

Giving students opportunities to read books outside their world is something I am passionate about. Transporting them to different worlds or countries allows them to immerse themselves and fall in love with reading.

Where Stars are Scattered is an amazing graphic novel about a family in Africa their struggles and their desperate want to come to America.

I want to expose my students to other people's struggles so that they gain empathy and understanding for others. Allowing them to read this story in graphic novel form exposes students to a different reading format, while also giving them the chance to read something different.

Gaining access to a class set of these books will allow me to fully immerse them in another world and expose them to a new genre of books.
