Our rural, remote, Title I school is very unique. We have students from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, and races. Some students are learning English for the very first time. Some students are very talented when it comes to learning, some require special education, and some students are working their hardest to give their best.
Each morning, students greet us and each other with high-fives and hugs.
We are truly blessed by the relationships that are built within our tiny community. Our students are the builders of tomorrow and the teachers, scientists, farmers, mothers, fathers, doctors, engineers, dreamers, and doers of the future.
Seeing students engaged and deeply involved in their own education is a great joy to me. I strive to provide hands-on learning experiences in a safe environment where students are free to explore, make real-world connections, and see their knowledge grow and expand! Knowing that failing is a step towards success relieves our students from being fearful to try, and great things happen because of their growth mindset!
My Project
In kindergarten through third grade, students are focusing on learning to read, but in fourth grade, the focus changes. Students begin reading to learn, and that can be a struggle. Reading comprehension and text structure are skillsets that many students struggle with, and this project is intended to address these issues head on.
Using small group settings, students will focus on a specific skill, one week at a time to help master the concepts of main idea and detail, theme, author's purpose, inferencing, cause and effect, and so much more.
Using Lakeshore's Ready to Write Prompt Box, Fiction Nonfiction Paired Passages for 4th Grade, Boost Comprehension SmallGroup Teaching Center for 4th Grade, and High Interest Intervention Reading Folders, students will delve into reading in a way they never have before.
Please help me give my students the tools they need to be great readers!
