Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students absolutely love reading! I am so excited to be teaching a group of fourth graders who are so eager to read to learn. Their interests in a variety of topics bring an abundance of knowledge to our classroom.
This diverse group of students from a variety of backgrounds are working hard this year through project based learning.
They are improving their team work skills, as well as, applying real world experiences through S.T.E.M. components.
It is amazing to see their ideas come together to complete a high quality project all through student centered learning. I love watching them take the wheel and learn on a deeper level.
My Project
Story Works and Time for Kids magazine subscriptions help promote higher order thinking skills while providing engaging reading material for students.
It can often be a struggle for students to enjoy reading with the competition of technology these days.
These magazine subscriptions captivate the students attention leaving them eager to read more.
Story Works provides exposure to a variety of genres and sparks interests in topics and genres that students might not normally consider reading. Time for Kids provides students with the opportunity to read and learn about current events that are happening in our country in world. I love to use these to promote discussions to promote deep thinking and opinions about the world we live in.
I am also asking for the novel set Class Dismissed by Allan Woodrow so that my students can engage in a novel study during our fiction unit. It is so fun watching them delve deep into the text to make inferences and discover themes as they watch the characters change and grow while applying the experiences to their own life.
