My goal this year is to reach all my learners. Too often, the higher learners are forgotten because so much attention is focused on reaching the lower-level learners. I want to extend the learning of my higher-level students so they can reach their potential.
This year, I have fifteen lively second grade students in my classroom.
My students are full of questions about the world we live in and their place in the world.
They attend school at a small community school. Our school has less than 200 students. Our school is a mix of rural and urban students. Many of the parents of my students also attended our school as children.
My Project
My classroom is lacking appropriate and timely nonfiction book to teach about the world we live in. My students would benefit from books that teach about the world and my students' place in the world. We could all benefit from teaching students to accept differences in the world and learn from these differences.
These book sets will help my students move beyond their world view to learn about different people, cultures, and countries.
. My students come from different backgrounds so having literature in the classroom featuring African Americans, Asians, and Native Americans will allow every student to see themselves in a book. Having access to books like "Too Many Tamales," "Something Beautiful," and "Dumpling Soup," my students will be able to read about life around the world and learn to accept differences in others.
