Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are many students who are below the poverty level at my school and come from rough or broken homes. Around 25 of my students have learning disabilities that hinder their learning. In addition, the majority of all my students read below grade level.

They are hard workers but often are discourage when they realize they aren't where they need to be, but we can always work to build confidence and skills.

These are kids who want and can be successful. Anything we can do to build on that future success is worth doing. Please help my students to become as successful as possible. They just need an extra push, some resources, and a little love.

My Project

All students should enjoy reading. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Many of our current students read below grade level and struggle to write, but it doesn't have to stay that way. Upfront Magazines are current event magazines built for students. They are meant to be interesting and informative. We can also use these to pick apart non-informational text so that they can identify biases, central ideas, etc when doing their own reading and research. Also, my class will receive these monthly for the whole year!

These magazines will help build an interest in reading and give them information about the world, so that they can learn, be involved, and write about things happening around them.

Please help us to build better readers and writers by providing them with current events that are interesting for students at all levels.
