Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students

My students are smart, silly, creative, caring human beings. They are black and Hispanic students living in poverty. They are in need of role models to inspire them to follow their dreams of being doctors, firefighters, veterinarians, singers, and actresses.
My Project
Together we will read the stories of black and Hispanic heroes. My plan is to read at least one or two of these books a day to my class during Black History Month. We will learn more about the lives of many people in these books, from Martin Luther King, Jr and Rosa Parks to Michael Jordan and Ella Fitzgerald. It is important to me that my students are inspired by people with similar backgrounds who have accomplished great things in life.
I feel very strongly that this project will make a difference in the lives of my young black and Hispanic students. I believe they will be inspired by the stories of people such as Ben Carson who made it out of poverty and followed his dream to become a doctor. I want to teach my students about perseverance and never giving up on yourself and your dreams.
