This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our middle school provides students from grades 6-8th with an authentic, rich, and rigorous curriculum to help facilitate socially responsible 21st century learners. The students are aware that education is key to their future success in high school, college and beyond.

Our student and staff culture is rooted in love, support, responsibility, and improving ourselves each day through academics and social interaction.

We work collaboratively to meet the needs of all of our learners. Our students realize and understand the challenges they may face in academics and in the world, but they are determined and eager to overcome any obstacle that may challenge their future success.

My Project

The students I support enjoy listening to a variety of texts. When a topic that sparks their interest arises, they ask questions and do research on their own. However, many of the students struggle with reading comprehension because their emergent skills need to be improved. These skills include decoding, fluency, and vocabulary. My students are eager to read aloud, but their inability to decode unfamiliar words in a fluent manner hinder their comprehension skills.

The materials I have selected will provided a wealth of ideas, strategies and reinforcements to help strengthen these emergent skills needed to improve the students all around reading abilities.
