My students need diverse books that represent not only their lives, but the lives and experiences of their peers so we can learn from one another.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very unique. They bring incredible stories, wisdom, and experience to the classroom and create an enriching learning environment for all. I am fortunate enough to be "looping up" with my 7th-grade students from last year on to 8th grade!
I am eager to see them grow even more over the next year.
My students made so much growth in reading and writing last year and learned to use those skills to make their voices heard in the world.
My Project
As an English teacher, I am committed to making my classroom a print-rich environment where students are reading and engaging in texts that connect them to the world. I am encouraged by the number of authors who are writing stories and publishing books that my students can connect to. This project will enhance our classroom library by providing students with numerous novels that deal with issues of race, gender and various topics that are relevant to their world. These novels will allow students and their peers to engage in rich discussions with one another, but also question the world around them.
