Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a Kinder, 1st and 2nd grade class of Special Needs kids. Our school is Title 1 with a majority of English Language Learners.

A Special Education classroom has unique challenges. We try to work in small groups based on grade level and ability. That means students need to have someplace to work on skills independently. Story time is a favorite time of the day. We can all be together to share a story. Big Books are awkward to hold so that everyone is able to see and for me to be able to point to parts of the illustrations and text in order to help with comprehension.

A double sided magnetic, write and wipe easel with the magnetic, phonics tiles will allow for 2 to 4 students to practice and build literacy skills while I work with another student group. The Big Book holder will make story time more enjoyable for the students since I will be better able to ensure that all students can see and that I can point out certain details in the text and illustrations.

Your help will be greatly appreciated by a fantastic group of kids this year and will be used by future classes for many years to come.
