This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We often learn from others; we often learn from books, but only when it is relevant and told well. This book engrosses teenage readers into a world of poetry and spoken word inspiring them to create their own and allowing them to see inside the hearts of well developed characters.

My students are amazing 11th graders with goals of college and work, and they are yearning for real knowledge.

They know what they are up against and they are eager to meet the challenge. With the turnaround, we have been able to increase drama,academic activities, and athletics. Students are coming to life and they are interested in learning more!

My Project

People only know what they have seen, experienced, been told or read. In this instance, students will read about the importance and excitement that poetry can have in one's life. We need 50 copies of Bronx Masquerade, a meaningful book that will challenge and inspire my students! They will share the stories of the characters, consider their own, and challenge their perspectives. Metacognition is an experience that guides the growing process and this book guides the process.

New standards and new expectations without new materials is rough!

My students need to know that not only have they changed the expectations, there are materials and activities that will help them,will be interesting, and will facilitate relevant learning!
