I teach a creative group of second grade students. They are inquisitive and like to question why. In our classroom, I try to bring our curriculum to life with hands-on, innovative activities. I want my students to see the world around them and interact with the materials we are using.
I want my students to put their problem-solving skills to use and know that they can make a difference in the world by the choices they make.
I want them to know the sky is the limit and that they should reach for the stars.
My Project
Our reading anthology contains many good books. One of my favorites is a story in our anthology is a true story called The Goat in the Rug. In this story, Glenmae decides to weave the wool from her sheep Geraldine into a rug. I am requesting a class set of this book so that my students can read the story outside of their anthology. I am also requesting 5 looms with yarn so that my students can see what it is was like for Glenmae to sit at a loom and weave.
There is nothing better than having a story come to life right before your eyes.
By having a class set of this story, my students will learn about the care and pride involved in the weaving of a Navajo rug as they begin their own journey with weaving.
