Reading the Classics

My Students

I teach in a small rural low-income community in Utah. I would love to get the chance to show my students things that they may never get the chance to see in person. Students get more excited about events when their teacher has been. They gain a closer connection to it. They then ask more questions about the events or places. I would like to bring back the knowledge and love of classic literature to my students. I would like to use these classic novels to get students excited to learn about American History.

My Project

I want the students of my class to learn to love reading and literature the way I do. Over the past year, I have acquired several classroom sets of classic children's novels. As a class, we have read these novels and have directed the text explaining the history of people, as well as the history of language. We have compared the books with the motion picture about the books. My students are starting to love how books are more descriptive than their motion picture counterparts. I would love to add to my collection to expose my students to a bigger variety of books that can spark their love for literature.
