Help me give my students a classroom set of the classic novel "Little Women." My students would love to read this as a class to improve their comprehension and appreciation for rich literature.
My students are enthusiastic, curious, critical thinkers. They are all very different. About a fourth of my students came to my class two years below grade level in reading. Several are in gifted and talented education and some are trying to learn English. However, they all share the same thirst for knowledge and come eager to learn!
At our school, forty percent of the students are on free or reduced-price lunch, but all of our students are eager to meet the challenges of a rigorous and engaging curriculum.
Every student is held to high expectations and supported as they soar to their fullest potential.
My Project
As part of our literature studies, I would love to introduce my students to the novel "Little Women." In my classroom, I challenge my students by reading more advance books together and discussing themes, vocabulary words, and providing reading guides in their understanding.
This book provides many connections to my students and what we are studying throughout the year.
For example, the novel is semi-autobiographic which is a form of writing my students learn to write during the year. Additionally, the book takes time during the Civil War which we learn about in social studies. Finally, I hope that my students will feel inspired by the characters to follow their dreams and apply the novel's message to themselves.
I know my students and I will be so excited to read this book. Together my students will develop more appreciation and love for classic novels and, hopefully, read more of them in the future.
