Help me give my students a comfy seat in the library as they participate in a book club and read these diverse titles which are part of Global Read Aloud and Project Lit Community.
I have the opportunity to work with approximately 670 amazing 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in our school library. Our diverse magnet middle school includes 110+ students who are English Language Learners. They represent 19 different languages.
Our school library provides a safe location where all students are welcome to be part of a community of learners.
In our school, students complete multiple projects each year, including projects that are themed around three pathways: STEAM; global systems; and leadership & entrepreneurship.
My Project
More than half of RCCBA students come from low-income households, and this project will allow students the opportunity to participate in Global Read Aloud and Project Lit Community through the library. Groups of 15 students will rotate through the library this year, reading with me and participating in activities that connect them to other readers across the globe.
Students reading select titles for Global Read Aloud (The Bridge Home and Front Desk), as well as the other Project Lit Community titles requested in this project will have the opportunity to connect with students around the world through Skype, Flipgrid (software application), and handwritten postcards.
