This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
First grade is a wonderful year as students travel from learning to read to reading to learn. Through reading they are able to travel to an undiscovered planet, dive into the ocean, visit a new country or take a journey to the past; the possibilities are endless!
Statistics show that 8% of students living in low income areas will graduate from college by the time they are 24.
My students will not be a part of this statistic. They are capable of achieving great things because they are college bound and proud! They're eager to explore the world of literature.
My students are on the path to college. They know the importance of education and how it can open many doors of opportunities. Through reading, they are able to go anywhere- different, cites, countries, planets, world, etc as they travel on their path to college. My school is located in Liberty City, a high poverty neighborhood, where the average annual income is below the poverty line.
My Project
I am requesting books and materials for our classroom library. With these books my students will be able to explore the world of reading and see where reading can take them. They can explore different time periods, different cultures, different interests, and different points of views. Overall, they will foster a love for reading. Please, help my students get a variety of books in their classroom library to explore the world of literature.
With your donation, you have the power to help alter the life trajectory of my students.
They will be able to see the many opportunities that lie ahead. But most importantly, they will be the graduating class of 2028!
