Help me give my students flexible seating options, such as the bean bags, a couch, and chairs for when they are ready to dive into a good book or a new Storyworks Magazine.
When I think of my fourth graders, the first word that comes to mind is resilient. After being hit by Hurricane Harvey last year, we have made a huge comeback. When my kids come to school, they give it their all regardless of their home life.
That is why I do everything I can to make my classroom a place where they WANT to be.
Many are still living in temporary housing or living in a house that still needs major repairs, so when they come to school they know it is a place that is clean and comfortable. Some do not have parents who value education, so I am the only motivation they have to do well. Although I take that job on full heartedly, sometimes it is difficult without support at home. Then we have some, who have full parental support and are there to encourage others and be models of how to respect others. Regardless of their home lives, I want EVERY child to be excited to come into my classroom to learn about the world.
My Project
Who likes to sit on a hard chair while their reading a book, or Story Works magazines? Help us transform our classroom into a reading environment where students can dive into a new world. I am asking for comfortable seating, such as bean bags, a couch, and floor seats. We also have students who have a hard time sitting still, so a wobble stool will help those students focus.
Story Works magazines are full of great stories that the kids love to read!
There is such a great variety of texts in just one magazine. They are a great resource for any lesson! The reading bins and supplies will help keep the classroom organized and a place students want to be!
I use the Mr. Sketch markers for my anchor charts to make my classroom a bright and cheery environment. Other items such as the Expo markers, pencil sharpeners, privacy folders, file folders are items I had but had been lost after the reconstruction from Harvey.
