My room is a Special Education classroom, with students varying in grade level from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. This classroom model allows for my older students to take on more of a mentor and role model role for my younger students--it's VERY cool to watch!
The age difference in my room also creates a challenge, as all of our instruction is done in small groups (by grade level), and therefore requires many independent activities to be prepped and planned ahead of time!
My Project
My students all struggle with reading comprehension, and are not on grade level in this area. The students that will benefit from your generosity are all students involved in our Special Education program.
As a result of my students being below grade level in this area, their confidence is low.
These materials will help me provide additional supports in the acquisition of these skills -- reading a text independently, understanding what was read, being able to answer text specific questions, understanding unknown vocabulary, and providing supportive evidence from a text. If my students can improve in these areas, then they will gain confidence!
