Everyday I try to inspire my students to grow in their reading and writing skills- to see the best in themselves and that they are capable of more than they know.
My students come from a small rural school where the school is the center of the community.
Many of my students rarely travel far outside of the town. They are eager for new experiences and opportunities to try or explore things they haven't encountered before.
My Project
My students need interesting books such as I Survived to read to help them improve enough to read on their grade level. I have a few I Survived Books and these students who normally hate reading are eating them up. They provide my students a look at places they haven't been and interesting parts of history. I want more of these books to continue to motivate my students to keep reading. We will do book reports about these books in which students will research the time period and location more in-depth, helping with their expository writing skills.
These students who normally hate to read just eat up these I Survived books.
They are interesting, they are on their level, and these books are motivating my students to keep reading. I only have a few books- I need enough for all of my students.
